16-17세기 청교도들이 박해 속에 복음을 전했던 곳,
복음을 위해 목숨을 버렸던 수많은 순교자들의 행적을 기록한 책, 존 폭스 목사의 『순교사화』가 기록되었던 곳,
전 세계에 하나님의 복음이 가장 활발하게 전해졌던 17-18세기에 세계선교 중심에 있었던 나라가 영국입니다.
우리에게 익숙한 이름 '존 번연, 메튜 헨리, 리차드 백스터'는 영국의 대표적인 청교도들이며
'요한 웨슬리, 조지 휘트필드, 존 뉴턴, 찰스 스펄전'은 영국의 복음 설교자들이고,
'윌리엄 캐리, 데이비드 리빙스턴, 허드슨 테일러, 윌리엄 부스'는 영국 선교사들입니다.
그리고 27세의 나이로 1886년에 조선땅에서 순교한 '토마스(최난헌)' 선교사,
특별히 무디의 전도로 구원받고 WEC 선교회를 설립한 'C. T. 스터드'는 우리교회 역사와도 관련이 있는 영국인들입니다.
우리는 영국의 복음 전도자들에게 많은 사랑의 빚을 졌습니다.
그런 우리에게 하나님께서 우리 교회를 통해 영국에 다시 복음을 전할 수 있는 기회를 주셨습니다.
이 사명을 위해 런던교회 형제 자매님들은 복음을 전하고 주님의 교회를 세우기 위해 합심하고 있습니다.
특별히 850만 인구의 런던은 영어를 사용하는 나라 사람들은 물론이고 세계 모든 사람들을 만나볼 수 있는 국제도시입니다.
통계에 따르면 런던에 살고있는 사람의 60%가 외국출신이며, 300여개의 언어가 사용되는 도시라고 합니다.
따라서 자연스럽게 교회에 전도되는 분들 중에서 외국인들이 많습니다.
그리고 구원받은 외국인 형제 자매님들은 각 출신 나라의 가족들에게 또 전도를 하고 교회에 연결하고 있습니다.
주님이 오실 날이 너무나도 가까운 우리 시대에 '세계선교 전심전력 총동원'을 경험하면서 주님의 복음을 함께 전하고 싶습니다.
마지막 때, 이 귀한 주님의 사명에 함께 동참하고 싶은 모든 거듭난 일꾼들을 환영합니다.
(행 20:24) “나의 달려갈 길과 주 예수께 받은 사명 곧 하나님의 은혜의 복음 증거하는 일을 마치려 함에는 나의 생명을 조금도 귀한 것으로 여기지 아니하노라”
The United Kingdom,
Where the Puritans of the 16th and 17th centuries preached the gospel in persecution,
Where John Foxe's wrote 『Foxe's Book of Martyrs』 which records the traces of a number of martyrs who had sacrificed their lives for the gospel,
The country that stood at the centre of world missions in the 17th and 18th centuries when the gospel of God was most prevalent throughout the entire world.
"John Bunyan, Matthew Henry and Richard Baxter," names we are well aware of, are the most famous British Puritans,
"John Wesley, George Whitfield, John Newton and Charles Spurgeon" were British preachers,
"William Carey, David Livingstone, Hudson Taylor and William Booth" were British missionaries.
And missionary Thomas (Nan-hun Choi) who was martyred in the land of Chosun in 1886 at the age of 27 and especially C.T Studd who, after getting salvation through Moody’s sermon, founded the WEC International, are British who are closely interconnected to the history of our church.
We owe so much love to these British evangelists.
Yet, thankfully, God has given us the opportunity to preach the gospel back to the UK through our church.
For such a divine calling, brothers and sisters of London church have united in commitment to spreading the gospel and building the church of our Lord.
London, in particular, is an international city where you can meet people from all over the world as well as people from English-speaking countries.
According to statistics, 60% of those in London are from abroad and more than 300 languages are spoken.
As a result, people from various backgrounds are naturally guided to our church.
In our days when the Lord’s Return is so near, I desire to share the gospel of the Lord together with you as part of the "World Mission with All Hearts and Powers."
We welcome all the born-again workers who would like to join this invaluable mission of our Lord in the end times.
